With the invitations already delivered and just weeks before the Women’s Club of Englewood annual cookout was slated to take place, Club President Rose Zanian Cravotta received some startling news that almost put the entire event on hold. She learned that the men who usually handle the grilling – all husbands of members – could no longer do so due to advanced age.
In the eleventh hour, their knight is shining armor was Mark Esposito, owner of the Villa Amalfi restaurant. Thanks to the help and generosity of this Cliffside Park restaurateur, the Woman’s Club of Englewood annual cookout was a success, catering to about three dozen women and men.
As it turns out, Cravotta and Esposito have a long-standing history that goes back to 1982 when Cravotta sold the restaurant to Esposito’s family. As soon as Mark Esposito received word of this dilemma, quickly agreed to lend a cook for the day.
The event also included a talk by Club President, Rose Zanian Cravotta and her daughter, Josephine GIa Hinman who is an assistant general services officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia.

Formed 120 years ago, the Woman’s Club of Englewood currently has 65 members. The Women’s Club awards several scholarships each year to female students from Dwight Morrow High School and Englewood Hospital and Medical Center’s nursing program.
