Englewood is only minutes from the George Washington Bridge and 10 minutes from New York City. Its proximity to New York City continues to be a significant feature, but it also has a vital and distinctive character of its own, forged from the richly heterogeneous backgrounds, interests and talents of its citizens. The residents take the Cities Trolley Shuttle to and from the commuter bus lines in the mornings and evenings. Englewood’s population is far more diverse than that of most suburbs, including many of its Bergen County neighbors. Occupations range from highly paid professionals to unskilled trades. Due to the proximity of New York hospitals and the ever-expanding Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, doctors abound. There are also many lawyers, business men and women, engineers and professors, as well as a number of artists, musicians, and entertainment and sports figures. One of many distinguished residents was Dizzy Gillespie, after whom a downtown area is named.

SESCIL is a Regional Senior Activity Center that offers Exercise, Dentistry and Learning – 5 days/week. Have a nurse, Social Worker and a podiatrist. Also offer dentistry services that are moderately priced. Programming includes a variety of exercise classes (including weight reduction), language groups, the arts (including book reviews, music appreciation and water coloring classes), and bridge clubs, to name a few. Offer Post Stroke and Parkinson’s support groups and discussion groups (including financials and investments). Parking is available and bus service is provided free of charge by some of our communities and by Bergen County.

The service provides transportation to and from the commuter bus lines in the morning and evening rush hours as well as service into the downtown for shopping and dining. The vehicles were funded by the federal government and provided through NJ Transit. The two replica trolleys operate on fixed routes as shown below. These schedules are subject to future change based on ridership demand.
Weekdays: Morning service operates 6AM – 9AM; Afternoon service operates 4PM – 8PM; Each route runs on the hour & half hour.
Saturdays: One trolley operates 10AM – 8PM for transportation to & from downtown
No service on: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving & Christmas.
